X-ray safety for bevs

11 February 2005

Thermo Electron Corporation's InScan x-ray inspection system is said to offer a safe, highly accurate measurement and QC system for beverage lines.

Operating at up to 2,400 containers/min, it uses patented two-dimensional x-ray imaging software. False rejects are "significantly reduced" thanks to the system's ability to differentiate between liquid and foam.

The Thermo process monitors multiple parameters to simultaneously inspect fill level, net content, under and overfill; liquid and foam differentiation; pressure detection and missing or misaligned lid, cap or crown. The InView closure inspection system rejects containers with non-conforming closures.

An optional filler valve monitoring system detects potential performance issues, alerting operators to trends and avoiding costly line shutdowns.
