WPO selects winners of WorldStar Awards 2016

Representatives from 19 packaging associations, members of WPO (World Packaging Organisation), judged 293 packaging projects, from 35 countries that entered the WorldStar Awards 2016. The judging sessions took place during WPO's Board Meeting program, held in Mumbai, India.

 

The week long program included working group meetings, the board meeting, the World Packaging Congress, - Packaging Strategies for Global Competiveness,and the judging sessions, all organised by WPO's member in India, the Indian Institute of Packaging.

 

The number of winners, by category, was: Beverages 40 (out of 60 entries); Food 48 (75 entries); Health & Beauty 19 (38 entries); Household 9 (16 entries); Luxury 8 (out of 13), Pharmaceutical & Medical 12 (14 entries); Electronics 7 (9 entries); and Other 20 (23 entries), Point of Sale 12 (out of 16) and Transit 19 (out of 29). A very close contest this year with the United Kingdom taking 15 awards, closely followed by the USA and China taking 14 each and on their heels are Austria, Turkey and Japan taking 13 awards each, Spain - 11, Germany, Hungary & India - 10, Singapore - 9, Switzerland - 7, Australia, Brazil & South Korea - 6, South Africa - 5, France, Indonesia, Israel, Czech Republic & Thailand - 3, Russia, Italy, Denmark, Sweden & Slovakia - 2, Canada, Croatia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Sri Lanka & Ukraine - 1.

 

The candidates for the special categories - President's Award, Sustainability Award and Marketing Award - will be announced in January. All winners will be recognised in an awards ceremony and gala dinner on May 26 to coincide with an International Packaging Exhibition in Budapest, Hungary organised byThe Hungarian Packaging Association. All winners will be notified individually. To be eligible to enter WPO WorldStar Awards the packaging must be a winner in a national or multi-national competition that is recognised by WPO.
