Tetra Pak launched at Cologne’s recent Anuga FoodTec 2006 exhibition what it claims is the world’s first aseptic carton bottle.
The Tetra Aptiva Aseptic combines a carton-based sleeve with a plastic top and screwcap to offer “ a distinctive, innovative ambient storage package”. Designed as an alternative to plastic bottles, the system is said to require less than half the capital investment of a plastic filling line at a comparable capacity, while offering beverage producers 20-50 per cent lower operating costs than APET and HDPE plastic bottles.
Tetra Pak says it is particularly well-suited to “on-the-go” beverages distributed via vending machines, convenience stores, supermarkets and other retail channels. It has a semi-cylindrical shape and a wide, “easy-to-drink-from” opening with resealable screwcap.
The Tetra Aptiva Aseptic is produced on the newly-designed Tetra Pak A5 filling machine, which will be available in two versions – one able to produce up to 12,000 portion packs/hour, and another, 10,000 pack/hour capacity unit, for family packs.
