Women's Institute to call for "less packaging" at Total seminars

Delegates can hear from NFWI public affairs committee member Jean Sheppard, why the body launched its “Stop Excess Packaging” campaign in 2006, calling on manufacturers, retailers and policymakers to reduce waste in the production, packaging and transportation of public and consumer goods. Simultaneously, IOP: The Packaging Society says, the NWFI will “get the opportunity to gain some insight into the positives, and not just the negatives, of the packaging sector”.

Unilever, which is supporting the seminars, believes its presence will reinforce its approach to “Open Innovation”. Richard Parker, group manager, Packaging Design Technology Centre, says: “We will lead key themes related to packaging design, our Vitality mission, and the impact of trends, flexibility and sustainability on our products. We will highlight the key challenges and areas for ideas focus and guide potential partners in the collaboration process Unilever wishes to adopt.”

The seminars sessions will cover “brand owner, retailer and consumer packaging needs”, as well as the design function, global and regional trends, smart and intelligent packaging, and “machinery designs of the future”. Other speaker organisations include design consultancy P13; RPC Group; the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA); Asda, Tesco, the British Brands Group, United Biscuits; and the (UK) Packaging Federation.
