Wilmington magazines to help stage 2007 Starpack Awards

1 September 2006

Wilmington Publishing, publishers of Packaging Today, Converting Today and RFID Solutions, has been selected to play a key role in the organising and staging of the UK's top packaging industry awards alongside next May's Total Processing & Packaging Exhibition 2007 in Birmingham.

The three magazine titles, and sister Wilmington publications Manufacturing Chemist, SPC (Soap, Perfumery and Cosmetics), ECM (European Cosmetics Market) and Blueprint, have been selected to help run and promote the IOP: The Packaging Society's Starpack Industry Awards 2007, which will be presented on May 15 during the exhibition, at a glittering ceremony, dinner and cabaret event at Birmingham's National Motorcycle Museum. The same titles will also be supporting the Student and School Starpack Awards 2007, presented earlier the same day.

According to IOP: The Packaging Society, “Starpack is the UK's premier packaging industry awards programmes and the only awards scheme that commits its resources to building a sustainable future for the sector through the Student and Schools Awards programme”.

Gordon Stewart, head of the Society and the UK's only recognised packaging industry qualification awarding body, the PIABC, explains: “The Student and Schools Starpack Awards honour students and pupils from the nation's universities, colleges and schools to create a pool of talent that will become the lifeforce of the packaging industry.” Following the success of the 2006 Industry Awards, several new award categories are planned for next year, including the opportunity to win a Gold, Silver or Bronze Starpack Industry Award 2007 for the Best Pharmacy and Toiletries Pack, and the Best Metal Packaging Innovation.

“Awards programmes must never stand still but must instead grow to encompass all the challenges facing the packaging supply chain,” Stewart adds. “We recognise that to do this we must not only take notice of all the markets our great industry serves but also not ignore any of the vital material sectors that bring so much choice to packaging users.”

While entry forms and details of all Starpack Industry Awards 2007 categories will be available in November 2006, forms for the Student Starpack 2007 and Student Starpack for Schools are available now.
