27 July 2007

i2r Packaging Solutions (standing for “innovation to reality”) has been established by an experienced team of industry professionals, and is headed by ceo Peter Reay, cfo Richard Chaplin and commercial development director Jon West. All three formerly held senior positions at Nicholl Food Packaging and, in Reay’s words, “have around 60 years’ flexible packaging experience under our belts between us”.

The company says its aim is “to provide innovative, market-leading packaging designs” for the food sector with an emphasis on substantially reducing the weight of aluminium food packaging while simultaneously improving tray strength “for greater consumer performance”.

Equipped with a 4,000 sq m food grade production plant just north of Birmingham incorporating fully automated processing lines, i2r says it is committed to spend £2.4m over the next two years on plant, equipment and tooling. Its first contracts and business partnerships will be announced shortly.

Jon West adds: “The i2r team is experienced and ambitious and we plan to grow a significant UK packaging business over the next five years. We believe that, with a unique product, unrivalled customer service and an open working relationship between suppliers and customers, we can really set i2r apart from the competition. Our team has been structured so we can give a fast response time to complex development challenges and we place great emphasis on innovation.

“Aluminium as a material offers a total packaging solution, and we strongly believe there is a huge potential for increased growth, especially within the ready-to-cook sector.”
