Weedon promises 100% accurate colour matching

Investment in new equipment by Weedon PSC will ensure 100% accuracy in matching retailer brand guidelines for printed packaging, the company says.

A SpectroEye spectrophotometer, from leading colour science company X-Rite, installed at its factory in Hednesford, Staffordshire will “eliminate human error from the process of colour matching printed packaging” says Weedon, the UK’s leading manufacturer of Retail Ready Packaging (RRP) and Point of Sale (POS) display units.

Whereas previously colour was matched visually using a light-box and colour swatches, the new equipment measures colour electronically, allowing Weedon to verify colours to exacting retailer requirements and to take into account the specific lighting conditions of different stores.

Colours can also be checked on press to ensure consistency throughout the print run.

“With the increasing demands on brand consistency for Retail Ready Packaging, colour is everything,” says Weedon PSC MD John Weedon.

“If their packaging does not match retailer brand guidelines exactly, our customers run the risk of having their products rejected before they even get to store. By guaranteeing the accuracy of the colour with this new equipment, we are able to give our customers real peace of mind.

“We used to pride ourselves on the quality of our colour print, but this equipment introduces a new yardstick.”

The company, whose customers include Asda, Black & Decker, Kellogg’s and Tesco, has enjoyed significant growth over the last year. The X-Rite SpectroEye spectrophotometer is part of a multi-million pound investment by Weedon in new technology.
