Wax lyrical

30 July 2002

The arrival of a solvent-free, small character inkjet coder has been announced by Mark-O-Print.

Waxmark is designed to code onto all surfaces, including plastics and non-porous packaging and uses wax that is claimed to be environmentally friendly. It will perform simple text and logo entry through a keypad control box which can also generate date, time and numbering functions.

The prints, which dry instantly, can be made in 1-4 lines of high resolution text. As there are no moving parts in the drop-on-demand printhead, running costs are kept down. The wax material is a combination of wax, resin and colour additives. In contrast to liquid ink, wax is said to be non-hazardous and cleanly handled when cold. Food products do not risk becoming tainted by top-up solvents.
