UV curable print and cut machine

With its white ink capability and the ability to print onto “almost any substrate, all at a highly competitive price point”, Roland DG’s VersaUV LEC-300 30 inch UV-curable integrated inkjet printer/cutter is said to offer major advantages for proofing in the packaging design sector.

Roland DG will be exhibiting the system at Packaging Ireland (June 17-18, 2009, in Dublin), on stand 71, alongside EskoArtwork, who will be running its Visualiser 7.5 software system for 3D rendering of packaging in conjunction with the VersaUV LEC-300.

Mat Drake, print product manager, Roland DG (UK), remarks: “The LEC-300 prints white ink, allowing for full colour proofing of packaging designs or prototypes on clear and plastic stocks. It can also profile cut intricate shapes and patterns, removing the need to manually cut the package or prototype following the printing process. In addition, as it’s UV curable, it will print on almost anything, making the scope for packaging creativity almost limitless.

“With this functionality, proofing times and therefore costs can be significantly reduced. All this, and it’s still half the purchase price of its nearest white ink capable competitor.”

Launched in August, 2008, the VersaUV is said to be the world’s first UV curable machine to combine print and cut operations in a single unit. In place of high temperature halogen lamps, it uses safe, low temperature and energy efficient LED lamps that operate on demand with no warm-up or cool-down period required. These LEDs have a lifecycle of 10,000 hours - up to five times longer than halogen lamps.
