UK Phantom production spies European growth

2 June 2011

Metal detector specialist Fortress Technology has invested £2million to achieve service, production and cost benefits by manufacturing its Phantom metal detectors for the UK and European food and pharmaceutical industries from a new 10,500ft2 facility in Banbury.

The company has more than trebled headcount during the past 12 months, it says.

Managing Director at Fortress Sarah Ketchin calls the new plant an ‘important milestone’ for the business. “Up to now it has solely concentrated on manufacture at its headquarters in Canada and from a production unit in Brazil,” she explains.

She adds: “We have already shipped a number of metal detectors from the UK and look forward to further expansion both in the domestic market and overseas.”

Further news from Fortress is the launch of its 'groundbreaking' metal detector with a touch screen front panel with membrane interface, designed to be future proof and said to be easily retrofitted to older models in the Phantom series. The Icon delivers 'fast accurate detection of metal contaminants, and detailed data collection' states the company.
