UK Luxe Pack winner announced

16 August 2005

An elegant droplet-shaped water bottle which the young designer felt perfectly reflected the sophistication of Monaco and its people has won Glasgow School of Art graduate Lewis Macintrye top spot in the UK stage of this year's Monaco Luxe Pack Design Awards.

Young designers from the UK, America, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Japan and Brazil were challenged to design a luxury 750ml bottle of water around the theme Celebration in Monaco, with the national winners each receiving €2,000 to develop a three-dimensional model. The models will be presented during an international final at November's Luxe Pack 2005 exhibition in Monaco, with the overall winner gaining a trophy, extensive publicity and €10,000.

Macintyre, a senior designer at 999 in Glasgow, also wins an all-expenses trip to Monaco for the final.

His droplet-shaped container is both visually striking and unusual in intentionally having no base; it must either be suspended by its specially designed cap held in ice or housed in a specially crafted bar or table top display.

The brand name adds a clever twist, with the 'o' of Monaco substituted with the French word for water 'eau' and the apostrophe replaced with a graphic bottle representation.
