Producer and distributor of retail bags, Intelipac Ltd, has completed the acquisition of Nelson Packaging Ltd, to create a major new UK-based multi-site business with operations in Malaysia, China and Australia.
The businesses, which specialise in the design and production of re-usable carrier bags made from recycled LDPE (polyethylene), will have combined sales of more than £33 million and employ nearly 300 people at six sites in four countries.
According to the company’s new business team, Nelson Packaging will retain a high degree of autonomy within the wider group, continuing to trade as Nelson Packaging, while at the same time benefiting from shared expertise and resources.
Nelson Packaging MD Richard Jones said: “Retail packaging is now a global business and we are very confident – in spite of ill-informed attacks on plastic bags – that our products have a strong place in the future of modern retailing, particularly as we will offer significant closed-loop recycling facilities in-house.”
Intelipac says the move will also act as a catalyst for growth in key areas including flexiloop, variloop, vest carrier bags and HDPE manufacture.
