Tube plant for India

16 June 2005

Laminate tube producer Betts Tubes has announced a major expansion for its business in India, with the planned establishment of a £5.5m greenfield manufacturing facility in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh.

A 100% subsidiary of the UK-headquartered Betts Group, Betts first set up an Indian operation in Goa in 1997 when it established a purposed-built factory to produce laminate tubes for household brands in oral and personal care products. Today the Goa plant has an extensive technological base, with injection moulding and flexo printing in addition to tube-making technology.

The business has grown rapidly and today has a significant share of the domestic Indian market, persuading Betts to establish a second site.

"Work on the building and infrastructure has already started and it is expected that the first production will be on stream in July," explains Betts India md Sergio Freitas. "The facility will provide a second strategic site located close to the customer base and will provide a tremendous opportunity for Betts India to accelerate its growth in India."
