Triangular sachet maker could be world first

20 November 2006

A machine claimed to be the world's first to be able to produce triangular monodose sachets alongside conventionally-shaped ones for products ranging from liquids to granules is now available in the UK.

Claimed to provide superior directional flow to “normal” oblong sachets, the triangular Funnelpack sachets are produced on Spanish firm Immecondor's FM-P100 machine, which can also produce sachets in many other shapes. The system is now available in the UK, Ireland and Germany from exclusive agent for these territories Funnelpack UK. Immecondor says the triangular sachets offer a “far more logical” way to accurately dispense product, and significant film saving potential as, due to the sachet seaming system, users can fill the same product volume into a triangular sachet as a rectangular one formed from 25% more material. Moreover the dosing system enables fast, easy switchover between different product types. Output is currently typically between 60 and 100 units/min.

India Oil Company, which supplies motorbike oil additives throughout the subcontinent, has bought several FM-P100s. It uses 600m sachets/year and calculates the new shape can save it €4m in foil costs.
