Proctor Machinery Guarding is exhibiting what it claims is a unique modular machine guarding system for the first time to the packaging industry.
The company says the Angel modular components are easy to specify and quick to configure, deliver and instal. The customer merely has to sketch an outline of the machine and the guardline and indicate where access is required and what type of access is needed. At no point is the customer required to compile a parts list. The Angel engineers do this as part of the quotation procedure.
Visitors will be given a 'fax back' guide for specifying the guarding which includes notes on machinery safety issues - such as minimum reach distances - and a grid to draw the sketch.

Future-proofed labeller from Kosme
Among machinery exhibited by the Kosme Group of companies is a combination labelling machine designed to provide a high level of future-proofing against change labelling and packaging technology as well as varying container throughput requirements.
Any combination of self-adhesive, hot melt and cold glue labelling can be combined into a multi-station machine and multiple position labels - including total or partial foils and security seals - can be accommodated. It is capable of running at a range of throughput speeds on a variety of materials and can handle cylindrical and shaped containers.
Exhibited for the first time in the UK are products from Keber and Costec. The Keber Combipack pick and place robot can be used for any shaped bottles, plus jars and other containers, while the Costec automatic rinsing/steriliser/blower can be used with glass, plastic or ceramic bottles of any shape or dimension.

Domino case coder is said to offer significant savings
Domino has announced it will be launching a new outer case coding system at Total, the C6000-Multi, which it says is a complete, highly configurable toolkit for end of line coding, offering an expandable platform delivering significant cost savings within the supply chain.
Mark Lilley, OCC business development manager at Domino, says: "The initial aim of the C-Series range was to deliver industry standard bar code capability allowing our customers to benefit from the cost savings provided by direct inkjet coding. The new Multi system builds on these capabilities to provide a flexible product architecture allowing flexible system control."
This latest addition to the C-Series has a compact design and its stainless steel construction makes it robust and durable.
The company also says the pressurised high volume ink system, already established in C-Series models, has been retained to reduce operator intervention during production runs.
The Multi system optimises the C-Series network capabilities, enabling multiple printers to be linked together for multi-head/multi-production line capabilities.
Domino says there is practically no limit to the number of coders that can be controlled via its Connect software which is at the heart of the C-6000 Multi system.
The company will also be highlighting its S200B laser coder, designed to deliver new standards for the quality of code achieved on PET containers.
The coder uses blue laser tube technology, which it says produces a clearer and more crystalline code contrast, unmatched by other standard CO2 laser systems. It also offers the advantages of not piercing the PET substrate and delivering a consistently high quality code across a full range of production line speeds.

Resealable food pack
Ilapak will show for the first time its new resealable packaging system - an integrated in-line pack applicator which it says is designed to apply easy to use reclosable fastenings to most packs including flow-wrap packs, pillow packs, block bottom bags, three-sided seal packs and gusseted and Stabilo packs.
The Strip-It is intended for most foods, from fresh produce to confectionery and dried foods, such as cereals. Meat and dairy versions will follow.
To open the pack, the consumer pulls away the flap at the top, revealing an opening with reinforced edges. A further strip is pulled to uncover the adhesive strip, thereby avoiding contamination on first use. The pack is closed by folding the upper edge of the pack and pressing it onto the adhesive strip.
Ilapak says the packs can be repeatedly opened and closed.

ITW introduces Pillar induction sealing
ITW Induction Sealing will introduce the Pillar induction systems to Europe at the show. The Pillar Unifoiler is an air-cooled induction sealer developed for use on all packaging lines, from low to very high speeds. Power ratings from 1-4kW are available and can be supplied with either a stationary mounted sealing coil or a unitised portable system, with or without an attached conveyor.
Three systems will be exhibited demonstrating the sealers versatile capabilities and the various options available, such as detectors for missing foils, raised caps and a reject system.

Elopak showcases award winner
Visitors to Elopak's stand will be able to see one of the winners of the World Juice Innovation Awards, the Mini Diamond Pure-Pak carton. The company was awarded the prize for the 'Best Innovation in Packaging and Processing' in October 2003 at the World Juice Conference in Amsterdam.
Elopak says the carton is an innovative and convenient packaging solution for premium positioning. Both as a portion pack and family pack, it is opening up a new segment for liquid foods where often viscosity is an important challenge. The elongated top panel allows the fitting of a new wider screw cap, which is said to give a greater pouring ability and an easier opening for direct consumption from the pack.
Available in 250ml, 330ml and 500ml sizes for both fresh and ambient products, Elopak says it is attractive, easier to carry and handle, making it the perfect pack for the new nomadic, on-the-go snacking culture.
TINE, Norway's leading dairy and juice manufacturer, was the first to use the pack when it relauched a juice product in 500ml Mini Diamond Pure-Pak cartons.

Field now offers Pack Service multi-pack systems
Field Packaging Systems will be showing a semi-automatic multi-pack machine system - the Mini PS - produced by Spain's Pack Service for the dairy sector.
Field Packaging Systems has just signed an exclusive agreement with Pack Service and will be the machinery manufacturer's sole agent in the UK and Ireland. This agreement extends Field Group's range of multi-pack solutions, particularly for the dessert and ready meals sectors.
Pack Service produces a complete range of multi-pack systems from a semi-automatic machine to a fully automatic system capable of handling 150 cartons/min.
Also on display will be a number of machines from Packovation, including the successful Texas hot melt carton erector with adjustable tooling and the Kansas corrugated tray/carton erector which is being demonstrated for the first time in the UK. This can erect a wide range of sizes and styles of packs without the need for changeparts.
