Tjoapack acquires Prolepha Packaging

Furthering its expansion ambitions in the Netherlands and beyond, independent pharmaceutical contract packaging specialist Tjoapack has acquired its former local competitor Prolepha Packaging.

The company says the location of the site at Etten-Leur, between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp and the airports of Amsterdam and Brussels, means it is: “Ideally suited as a packaging and logistic hub for the European market, both for players from inside and outside the EU.”

Founded in 1989 by pharmacist Eric Tjoa, Tjoapack is mainly, but not solely, focused on medicines in solid oral dosage forms, and is an expert in the field of mass serialisation.

The company is now the market leader in the Netherlands, serving customers in Europe and beyond from its bases in the Netherlands at Emmen, Etten-Leur and Boskoop. The company’s site at Emmen has more than 20 years experience in Unit Dose packaging and is located in a logistically strong region at an entry point to the German market.

Synergies derived from the consolidation will create an even stronger partner for the pharmaceutical industry with increased flexibility and service level, the company says.

Close proximity to analytical laboratory service provider Bactimm on the Etten-Leur site ensures that ‘all testing and analysis for batch release is fast and efficient’.

With more than 200 employees at its Etten-Leur and Emmen sites, forecast turnover for the Tjoa Group in 2012 is €38 million.
