Tight fit label that looks like print

1 June 2004

Ditone has developed a beverage container label which it says fits so tightly around the can that it is only by examining it from "a few inches away" that your can tell it is not direct printed.

The company has designed and manufactured the Can Wrap with new customer Liquid Ad, which produces promotional customised drinks. Ditone managing director David Stevenson explains: "We have printed this particular label flexo on our Gallus RCS330, although we can use a screen/flexo combination. This is the first Can Wrap produced for beverages, although we have supplied the label for a few automotive applications.

"Perfecting the label so it gives the impression of direct print required close co-operation with adhesive, label substrate and ink manufacturers to source the right products. The ink's opacity and the silver's clever show-through contribute strongly."

Ditone is now talking to several interested brewers and other drinks producers.
