Thin film for thick pizza crusts

29 May 2003

Pechiney Plastics Packaging has introduced a downguaged version of its pizza film, which is said to offer a 10% top web reduction and 20% bottom film reduction.

Product manager Erin Larson says: "The coextruded top web gives a cost advantage for the manufacturer. The film runs efficiently on the equipment and forms an excellent seal."

The patent pending film is said to be particularly suited to the rising crust pizza industry, often afflicted by loose and sharp pizza toppings that can cause abrasion problems during distribution. Pechiney's film is said to drape over the pizza, while holding the product tighter.
