Tetra Recart gains foothold in France food sector

2 April 2014

Tetra Pak has announced the first private-label deployment in the French market for beans, of its Tetra Recart carton based package for retortable foods.

According to the company, Système U, one of France’s largest food distribution groups, has made a “major change” to Tetra Recart for the launch of a variety of new products as well as repackaging a range of existing canned products.

“Système U has adopted Tetra Recart to provide a more convenient package for consumers and optimise space and weight at distribution, in-store and at home,” Tetra Pak says.

Produced using FSC-certified cartonboard, Tetra Recart is lightweight yet sturdy and 100% printable, with a rectangular design that means the package has a greater visual impact on-shelf, and when stacked, the packages work in harmony, always facing the consumer.

The carton design means that the package is easy to open and that there are no sharp edges that can potentially injure a consumer.

Tetra Pak claims the design of Tetra Recart also creates savings of “up to 40%” on shelf space and in distribution: “Système U will now be able to ship an additional 384 packages per pallet compared to the older canned systems, a significant logistical saving,” the company says.

Système U will introduce U-brand kidney beans and chickpeas as new product launches, while a range of existing canned products such as white beans, baked beans and prepared lentils will also be transitioned to Tetra Recart packaging.

In January 2014, Système U also introduced a range of four new tomato products packaged in Tetra Recart.
