Tetra in major Chinese investment

The new facility, on which construction work will start mid-this year, will have a planned capacity of eight billion packs a year, and is scheduled to start operation in the fourth quarter of 2008. The latest spend brings Tetra Pak's accumulated investment in China to over €250m. The company already has Chinese plants in Kunshan, Foshan and Beijing.

Tetra Pak ceo Dennis Jönsson said during a recent visit to Hohhot: “This investment is a further demonstration of our commitment to helping customers grow their dairy and beverage industry, with our unique offering of processing and packaging solutions, on-the-ground support and more than 50 years of market experience.”

“This factory will primarily serve our customers in the north, freeing up capacity in our southern factories for customers in adjacent regions,” says Tetra Pak China md Hudson Lee. “With a larger footprint we will offer faster delivery and increased flexibility for customers all over China.” Tetra Pak says it estimates the dairy industry in China will grow by an average 15% over the next five years.
