Stick pack wins Swiss Star

12 January 2009

The ‘tpod in Pull Pack’ devised by Sigpack Systems won a Swiss Star 2008 in the sales packaging category. The pack is based on the Bistrozucker (Stick Pack) format that offers an alternative to the traditional tea bag and can be used as a spoon for stirring. Other applications include coffee, sugar or pharmaceutical products. Developed in partnership with Alcan Packaging, Bistozucker and Mendel, Sigpack Systems combined the Pull Pack with the Stick Pack.

Primary tea packaging of the tea is undertaken using a system developed by Alcan Packaging which includes a FDA-certified, springback foil that reverts to its original, cylindrical form after filling. The Pull-Pack Packaging concept functions as secondary packaging and is said to guarantee quick, exact opening permitting the clean withdrawal of the tea sticks. Sigpack Systems developed the machinery for production of the perforated Stick Pack and for the filling and secondary packaging of the tpod (tea portion of design).
