Sterile ‘breakthrough’ for derma-cosmetics

26 February 2010

After eight years’ research, Promens has developed the first patented sterile distribution system in partnership with Avène Dermatological Laboratories (Pierre Fabre Group), which was presented at the PCD conference in Paris.

Called the DEFI (Dispositif Exclusif Formule Intacte) system it is said to guarantee complete sterility before and during use. It makes it possible to keep the product inside the package free from bacteria without the use of a preservative.

A tube skirt was specially manufactured to fit the new DEFI cap system. These two parts (skirt and cap) fit perfectly into one another, ensuring total water-tightness. The cap consists of four parts, including a supple membrane which rises when pressure is applied to the tube and later resumes its position when pressure is released.

The high-precision parts are manufactured to one hundredth of a millimetre. Tests are performed at every stage of cap assembly to ensure that it is water-tight. The system is said to bring together all the advantages of existing packages such as airless dispensers and single-dose tubes, but without the disadvantages.

The first skin care line to use the system is the Tolérance extrême skin care line from Avène Dermatological Laboratories, said to be ‘the only truly preservative, fragrance and surfactant free’ product of its type on the market.
