Celebrating the event’s 50th anniversary, Starpack 2009 will combine the Starpack Industry Awards, Student and Schools Starpack and the Starpack Summit strategic packaging conference. The awards are organised in association with Packaging Today.
“Our golden anniversary provides us with an opportunity to look forward not back," says Gordon Stewart, head of IOP: The Packaging Society. "Currently, the credit crunch means that the packaging sector is coming under even more pressure to develop technical answers to its customers’ demands for ‘holistic’ solutions that provide viable alternatives to calls for sustainability, convenience and protection. It is not impossible to achieve these aims while at the same time driving costs out of the supply chain. The talent and ingenuity of the supply chain will ensure that these challenges are met."
The Starpack Summit will explore the many routes through which the supply chain can achieve these aims and discuss both existing and future technical developments through the eyes leading speakers from the brand and retail community, as well as packaging suppliers.
Starpack’s two environmental awards - Packaging Optimisation and New Technical Developments – are designed to “challenge the sector to drive yet more technical ingenuity into packaging to create both commercial and environmental advantages”.
Closing date for entries to the Starpack Industry Awards 2009 is February 4.
