Spouts for pouches

1 September 2004

The SmartSpout with Seaquist Closures' silicone valve has been patented. Seaquist says it fulfils two key roles – facilitating opening and closing and creating added shelf impact, while the design ensures clean, drip-free, one-handed dispensing.

The valve prevents product from accidentally escaping when the pack is handled as the contents are only dispensed when sufficient pressure is applied, while the "straw-like" spout creates a comfortable mouthpiece. The SmartSpout incorporates a tamper-evident ring between overcap and spout.

German company Hensen Packaging Concept has developed a high-speed machine for filling the pouches incorporating the closure.
