Sleeve that swims for recycling

8 May 2009

At Hispack 2009 (May 11-15), in Barcelona, shrink sleeve manufacturer Fuji Seal Group’s exhibits will include a new development focused on the environmental aspect of packaging.

Alpha film has a specific gravity of less than one, which enables it to float when placed in a water tank. This allows Alpha sleeve material on PET bottles to be easily separated in a cost-effective way for recyclers, and greatly reduces the packaging weight, the company states.

As well as developing new films, Fuji Seal also applies its specialist knowledge to resolving how thinner films will handle – and how non-PVC films will shrink - when running through its application machine and tunnel combinations.

Along with the task of handling the environmental films, the company’s target is higher speeds (1,200 bpm is currently possible), increased efficiencies, lower manning levels and quicker change-overs between products.

This approach gives Fuji Seal total responsibility for the line and complete accountability, and as a result is said to represent “a low risk, high quality solution”.

In addition to the introduction at Hispack (hall 2, level 0, stand D564), Fuji Seal will be featuring Alpha film among its exhibits later this year at Drinktec (hall 5B), Munich, on September 14-19.
