Single serve pouch features silicon oxide layer

5 October 2006

Mondi Packaging Flexibles has developed a three-layer single serve microwaveable pouch that it says offer excellent barrier properties and retortability, strong shelf impact and up to a year's shelf life.

Designed particularly for fast preparation of single serve meals, the pack structure features a new three-layer combination incorporating silicon or aluminium oxide. Mondi says using such materials in place of the traditional aluminium layer, together with the company's transparent sealing option, also allows production of self-standing pouches with see-through windows. A choice of opening mechanisms - such as tear notches or Mondi's new laser perforation - are available.

Already being used by several European brand owners for pre-cooked rice, pasta and couscous, the pouch should also be suitable for products such as soups, vegetables and ready-to-serve dishes.
