Single malt bottle in £18m re-vamp

13 October 2006

Glass packaging specialist O-I had to overcome a number of challenging manufacturing issues against tight deadlines, particularly in achieving the correct vacuity and bore control in the short, narrow neck, to create this striking oval-shaped bottle for an £18m repackaging of Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky.

The repackaging's key objective was to modernise the pack (which comes in two designs, one for the new premium 30-year-old malt and the other for the 12,15, 16, 18 and 25-year-olds) to attract new customers, while retaining the loyalty of the traditional Highland Park drinker. Designers from Pearlfisher and O-I collaborated to create a highly embossed container, which OI claims differentiates the brand from 95% of the malt market.
