SIG sets up in Brazil

2 August 2011

SIG Combibloc, a supplier of carton packaging and filling machines for beverages and food, has started up its first packaging plant in Brazil. The operation at Campo Largo is to receive €90 million of investment.

An initial production capacity of a billion carton packs/year will double following further expansion within the next two years, says the company.

The site eventually will cover 130,000m2. The first 13,000m2 has already been built.

“In the past year alone, our business in Brazil has increased by 60%. For us, that means our new factory is working at full capacity right from the start. We continue to have ambitious targets, and we want to expand much faster than the market does,” says Ricardo Rodriguez, cluster head South America at SIG Combibloc.

In 2010, the volume of products in aseptic carton packs in Brazil was about 8 billion litres, representing 75% of the total volume in South America, and anticipated annual growth is 6.4%.
