Setting standards

26 June 2002

BSI (British Standards) is next year due to publish new guidelines on third-party marks of conformity, addressing the need for a universal understanding of their uses. A draft copy is currently available for public comment.

Based on market feedback, the main purpose of the international standard is to enable a uniform approach to the use of marks conveying product information, such as safety and quality, and to fill gaps that have become apparent in existing ISO, IEC, ISO/IEC standards and guides.

It will also address potential problems arising from different uses of marks of conformity, provide a clear basis on the use of these marks and set out general requirements for their use.
