Setting new standards for RFID

19 September 2002

SCN Containers is staking claim on development of the industry's first returnable pallet boxes with built-in RFID technology as standard.

The REHAU Raubox multi-trip folding pallet containers are available exclusively from SCN featuring Texas Instruments Tag-it for remote identification and tracking throughout the supply chain.

Conforming to worldwide standard ISO 15693, they can be supplied as part of a fully integrated system with fixed and handheld readers.

According to SCN managing director Stuart Nicholls the incorporation of TI's RFID tags as standard is a major development that brings the benefits of radio frequency identification and tracking to many more users. "The Raubox now provides a future proof investment that allows users to upgrade to RFID at any time without the expense of adding RFID tags or buying new pallet boxes."

The Tag-it tags are embedded in the base and allow data to be read and written on the fly. Requiring no battery or maintenance, unlike bar codes, the tags are designed for long term use.
