Scotch whisky relaunched with luxury feel

15 January 2007

Burn Stewart Distillers has relaunched its Scottish Leader Supreme Scotch whisky in a rectangular 70cl bottle designed by Bonsey Design Partnership, Singapore.

Forming phase two of distiller's major Asian investment thrust, the bottle is produced by Rockware Glass's Scottish spirits plant.

The designers' objective was to give Scottish Leader Supreme both the quality, premium look of imported Scottish whisky and maximum shelf standout. They retained the rectangular shape, apparently popular locally, with modifications aimed at decorative enhancement. Because the brand is known locally as Scottish Leader “Gold Label”, the gold colour was paramount, but had to be refined. Bonsey also sought a more “iconic” symbol to replace the “flying eagle” on the front label, which was considered to contribute to the container's “old-fashioned” and “local” feel.

Responsible for the 2D and 3D creative design, the designers worked with Rockware's Concept and Product Design teams to ensure all the aesthetic requirements were matched by geometric precision to facilitate manufacture.
