Schubert rises to the challenge

19 May 2006

A high-speed Schubert automated packaging system has improved the efficiency of packing of a wide range of products made by one of Britain’s leading bakery retailers.

Greggs is using a Schubert TLM-F44 top loading machine to pack up to 850 savoury goods/min into transport trays at its Long Benton factory near Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Schubert’s TLM-F44 picker line incorporates TLM-F2 robotic tray handling units, which place the transport trays onto the product loading conveyor, and a high technology vision system which performs a quality check. Four-axis robots fitted with special vacuum gripper attachments not only place frozen savoury products like pasties into several layers, but also insert a special protective paper sheet between them.

The system is running round-the-clock on a three-shift programme, five and a half days a week.
