Schubert bags Walkers crisps deal

31 January 2008

Three new Schubert automated packaging systems have been installed at Walkers Snack Foods’ plants in the Midlands and the North East for packing crisps.

Parent company PepsiCo has now purchased seven Schubert machines for its UK operations after four lines were installed at the Walkers factory in Leicester earlier this year. Two of the new TLM-F44 units are in operation at Peterlee while the other is at Coventry.

They are being used to place up to three varieties of crisp packs into a series of horizontal flow wrappers. Up to 480 bags/min are handled on each line, which have been designed for a range of pack sizes with quick changeover times between packaging configurations.

The lines use Schubert’s patented counterflow principle, in which the two chains run against the flow of the product conveyor, ensuring fully loaded chain divisions.
