Seftons Packaging of Liverpool has developed a sack that combines the moisture resistance and strength of plastics with the feel of paper.
The sack is made from a three-layer polyethylene film called Paperfeel and manufactured by a company of the same name.
Craig Sefton, purchasing director of Sefton Packaging, said: "In the chemical, pet food and agrochemical industries our customers would prefer a paper sack as it provides a goods surface print and low slip. This is not practical, however, where sacks are being stored outside."
Paperfeel tailored the material to meet UN drop test requirements. The material is designed so that each layer can perform a different function. The inner surface can be low friction for ease of filling, the middle layer a stiffener and the outside high friction to prevent slippage, while offering a good print surface.
