RPC Llantrisant to aim for 50% PCR bottles

19 September 2007

The plastic packaging specialist has supplied Marks & Spencer with 30% PCR bottles for its juices since 2005, and The Body Shop with similar containers for over five years. “We have worked for many years on developing the percentage of rPET in our bottles,” explains Dean Williams, designer at RPC Llantrisant. “Having consistently achieved a quality of bottle with 30% PCR equivalent to 100% virgin PET the time is right to offer this product as standard.”

Ian Kemp, technical services manager, adds: “The biggest barrier to achieving even higher PCR content has been getting a consistent supply of sufficiently high quality, uniform-coloured recyclate. We have developed the relationship between the supply specification and the processing needs to a point where we are confident about manufacturing a 50% PCR container.”
