Rockwell claims a PLA first

20 November 2006

Rockwell Solutions has launched what it believes is the world's first truly compostable peelable lidding film for PLA trays and pots, and says it can also now offer a PLA-based heatsealable flowwrap.

The Dundee-headquartered firm says its clear peelable BioPeel can be used in both chilled and frozen conditions, and is thus ideally suited to fruit, vegetable and sandwich packaging applications. The film has a broad sealing window, offers excellent clarity, is available with anti-fog and can be perforated. Rockwell says it can be tailored to seal and peel to any type of container (including APET) and will, the company, maintains, allow any produce packer to immediately start using peelable biodegradable film. The material has already been supplied to a number of sandwich packers, and dessert producer Uniq is undertaking trials. Rockwell is also perfecting a barrier version for MAP and similar applications.
