The multi-million pound plant, which is being built and will be operated by Rockware's long-term recycling partner Berryman Glass, is believed to be one of the world's most advanced. It will take bottles and jars collected from bottle banks and doorstep collections both in Doncaster and elsewhere in the UK and, via a sophisticated detection and separation system, produce high quality cullet for use in glassmaking at Rockware's Wheatley factory.

  Equipment will include the latest machinery, industrial magnets and laser devices for separating out metals and pyro-ceramics, along with colour enhancement cameras so that for instance, when sorting for clear glass, other colours are filtered out. Plant will also include powerful crushing, cleaning and drying equipment.

Rockware and Berryman have successfully operated a similar facility in Knottingley for the past four years. The new facility will process around 200,000 tonnes of glass annually.
