Robots boost production for furniture producer

14 April 2007

Svedplan, a €33m turnover Scandinavian company, needed to automate as its business grew to make its packaging operation more efficient and reduce manual handling risks. Three ABB IRB 660 robots (four-axis palletisers combining a 3.15m reach and a 250kg payload) supplied by automated process specialist Teamster AB were introduced to feed parts from pallets to five ABB IRB 4400 robots that pack the products into boxes.

The automated lines prepare 10-15 boxes per hour, compared with 6-10 boxes on the manual lines.

Svedplan says it expects to achieve full payback from the €2.3m (£1.5m) system within three years.
