Robot control is in hand

4 August 2003

Swedish robotics giant ABB has announced the development of handheld control technology for robots through a collaboration with Microsoft.

The development, which is based on Microsoft.NET Compact Framework and Microsoft Visual C#, is designed to increase robot usability and allow the robot to execute on its own hardware.

A benefit of the handheld system includes being able to develop add-ins to configure operation to application needs.

"Easy customisation of the interface is a key feature of the software," say David Marshall, ABB business manager, Robotics.

ABB project manager Ralph Sjöberg added: "Overall, we're seeing faster development times with Visual Studio.Net, the Net Compact Framework and C#. We estimate that we can halve our development time."
