19 May 2006

Robbins & Myers, the US-headquartered machinery and equipment supplier to the energy, pharmaceutical and industrial markets, has completed the sales of its Romaco business units – Hapa and Laetus – to Italian machinery group Coesia for € 26m.

Aslbach, Germany-based Laetus design and manufactures inspection systems, primarily for the pharmaceutical industry, and employs 114 staff, while Hapa produces UV flexo, UV digital and digital drop-on-demand print-on-demand systems used to print pharma items ranging from cartons and blister packs to labels and I/V bags. It employs over 100 worldwide. The two companies had a combined turnover of € 35m in the year ending August 31, 2005.

Peter C Wallace, president and ceo of Robbins & Myers, says: “This strategic divestment of non-core businesses is an important step forward in reducing our complexity and becoming ever better focused. We believe in the excellent potential of Romaco’s core competencies of packaging and processing and will pursue our drive for growth by further investing in this product portfolio and the underlying technologies.” Romaco says it will continue to sell Hapa and Laetus equipment.

Coesia is an industrial group of six companies specialising in the manufacture of automated machinery. Headquartered in Bologna, it has manufacturing operations in the UK, Italy, the US, Germany and Spain.
