Retailers drive food packaging standard

2 December 2002

Retailers are spearheading the drive towards certification to the Standard for Food Packaging Materials, says inspection and certification specialist EFSIS.

In fact, 92% of respondents said retailers were the major influencers for adoption of the standard that was launched a year ago by the British Retail Consortium and the Institute of Packaging.

Throughout the year, they have been evaluating those packaging companies who decided to act early in order to achieve the standard.

EFSIS has been liaising with many companies who are working to ensure that systems and procedures are in place to meet the retailers' deadline of March 2003 to be certified against the standard
