Retail-ready pack claimed to be unique in dairy sector

UK cheddar brand Pilgrims Choice has launched a retail-ready pack believed to be unique to the dairy sector.

The RDP (Retail Display Pack), designed and manufactured by DS Smith Packaging, Launceston, is “remarkably quick and easy to use”, with the top taking “just a second to remove”, to form an attractive display case.

Design director at Launceston Roger Wonnacott explains: “The tearing mechanism is quite complex in manufacturing terms, but avoids a pitfall often associated with perforations. By restricting these to the box's top, the pack eliminates unsightly tears on the front and back, which worry some retailers.”

DS Smith says packer-fillers will also appreciate the pack's design, as the one-piece format will require “only minor changes” to existing packaging machinery.

John Boseley, procurement manager at Pilgrims' Choice's North Downs Dairy in Wincanton says: “The pack is extremely strong - performing in trials even better than our previous brown transit case, extremely easy to convert and, using flexo pre-print, allows us to incorporate outstanding graphics.”
