The Luxembourg-headquartered group says the new lightweight (2.0g) 'one size fits all' closure offers time and cost savings by enabling fillers to order a single cap format to fit a range of different products.
A feature of the 28-1881 neck finish is its high CO2 retention, which makes it suitable for a wide range of drinks with CO2 volumes of up to 8.5g/l, while its standard dimensions also mean there is no requirement for retooling of filling lines.
"We are constantly working together with the fillers to help them increase their productivity," says Procap product marketing manager Lionel Bonvalot.
"Having a uniform cap for the soft drinks market is another big step forward for the industry, and consumers profit from it."
An improved rib/groove grip design is said to make opening easier for consumers in all age groups, with a low opening torque, and the company says the closure "will not burst open during opening, even under high pressure".
The BSDA (British Soft Drink Association) compliant closure also features a wide seal angle with a tamper-evident band that drops down when the bridges are broken.
An outer mark provides quality assurance on the seal, and Procap reports the number of crooked caps on the capping line to be "below 1/20,000".
