Promens Ecosolution gains Ecocert recognition

24 October 2012

Plastics group Promens has announced that its Ecosolution ‘ecological airless dispensing system’ for cosmetics has attained the Attestation of Conformity from sustainable development certification body Ecocert.

The recognition, gained in August this year, means that Ecosolution conforms to the standards set by the France-based organisation for natural and organic cosmetics.

The Attestation of Conformity will help brands that use the Promens packaging system to achieve the Ecocert certification process of their product.

“Packaging approval is a main step in the Ecocert certification process,” the Iceland-headquartered plastics company says. “A cosmetic company that wants a product to be Ecocert certified must use packaging that fully complies with standard requirements by Ecocert.”

Promens’ Ecosolution features a number of elements that contribute to a reduced level of environmental impact.

Thanks to a dispensing system made of four parts only, Ecosolution contributes to reducing CO2 emissions by 30%, compared to a classic piston-based airless dispenser made of 12 parts.

A 100% plastic (polyolefin) bottle and dispenser ensure and complete recyclability at end of life, and thanks to the AirFree technology used, the multi-layer co-extruded bottle can be produced in recycled raw material (post-consumer rHDPE).

The external layer is totally made of recycled PE and represents 85% of the total raw material weight of the bottle – the internal multi-layer pouch, that is in contact with the formula, is made from virgin PE.

The pouch contains EVOH, a barrier material that blocks all odour migration and guarantees the integrity of the formula.

Ecosolution was also granted a recycling certificate in July 2012 from COTREP – a French technical organisation that recognises and identifies sustainable plastic packaging.

Ecosolution is available in sizes of 50ml, 100ml, 200ml, 400ml and 500ml.
