The company says it also offers a "simple, cost-free upgrade path for support of Gen 2 and future RFID protocols as they arrive."
The R110Xi and R170Xi are also said to be the only printer/encoders to embed Massachusetts-based ThingMagic's Mercury4e RFID reader module, which uses advanced software radio technology to "read and encode virtually any EPC tag without compromising performance". The printers are built on Zebra's proven Xi series platform and offer "an unprecedented level of on-demand printing flexibility for tag placement and label size [4in and 6in print widths]".
Meanwhile an RFID-enabled label printer that allows production of combined human readable text, graphics, barcodes and RFID tags in one self-adhesive label has been introduced by auto-id solutions company DataScan Systems.
Designed for use in outer case or pallet label applications, the Nova RFID is based on the Imaje Nova range of thermal image label printers. Continuous labels are fed through the Nova 6 RFID and Nova 8 RFID at up to 250mm/second.
