Plenty of 'Attitude'

22 August 2008

The Gerresheimer packaging for the 'Attitude' fragrance from Giorgio Armani has received the FiFi Award from the American Fragrance Foundation for Best Packaging in the Men's Prestige category. The lacquer-black glass bottle with severe geometric lines is said to be reminiscent of an elegant art deco cigarette lighter. Most of the aesthetics are attributable to the colour-sprayed glass. Rhombus-shaped depressions spread across the front and back of the flacon - one below the other, all of which are identical. As each rhombus comprises a triangle pointing inwards and one pointing outwards, there is an interplay of effects, operating through the immaculately shaped levels, edges and angles.

A stylistically consistent complement is formed by the top quarter of the rectangle in the reflective chrome flip-closure that bears the imprint of 'Giorgio Armani' - the only visible labelling of the flacon. Connected to the body by a side hinge, operation of the flip mechanism is all that is required to open the container.
