Plastics prices up

30 July 2008

BASF has raised its prices for Styrolux (SBC polymer) in Europe by €150 per tonne. The increase is in addition to that announced in June 2008, “because the cost of raw materials, energy and transportation has risen further”. The main applications for the plastic Styrolux are in transparent food packaging, blister packaging and many injection moulded products in cosmetics, household and office equipment.

Effective August 1, LyondellBasell Industries will increase prices on all of its PP compound grades in Asia Pacific by US$300 per tonne. “The price increases we announced for July 1 were not sufficient to cover the continuously escalating feedstock and energy costs, so this further step is necessary,” said Frank Noeltgen, vice president of LyondellBasell’s Automotive Business in Asia Pacific.
