Pizza gets the hots for new film

The latest product to benefit from Alert Packaging's Micro Crisp range of susceptor laminates for microwave applications is the Bite Me pizza tubes from Heinz.

The gravure printed multi-layer film creates temperatures up to 2200C inside the pack when microwaved, providing a cooking time of around two minutes.

The majority of susceptor products are based on board but Alert's film is a self-venting material. Suceptors absorb some of the microwave energy during cooking and convert it to heat within the pack. The advantage of a flexible package is that it wraps entirely around the food product.

As the pack heats it opens slowly to vent some of the steam build-up. Alert says the film keeps the product crisp and appetising and browns the food when in direct contact, whilst the self-venting alleviates the risk of scalding.
