Permeable Coatings That Make Paper Useful

June 2014 - Press release

Versaperm launch latest paper permeability measurement instruments

Paper is one of the most used materials on the planet. This diversity derives less from the paper itself, than the coatings which cover it - which generate the physical characteristics such as strength, anti-jamming, water resistance, printability, finish and a host of more exotic abilities such as electrical conductivity, chemical resistance, reactivity and even biological properties,

Almost all of these are strongly affected or controlled by the coating's permeability and this, through Versaperm's latest range of paper permeability measurement instrumentation, is a key part in developing and working with coatings and applications. Small changes to a coating's composition often lead to substantial changes in the finished product.

Now, thanks to Versaperm, measuring this for quality control or as part of the development process has become fast and easy - not only with respect to water vapour but for any of the commonly used gasses - such as oxygen, solvents, volatiles, nitrogen or CO2.

The latest equipment is capable of independently testing up to six coatings at a time, sometimes in as little as 30 minutes. Accuracies are typically in the parts per million range, (parts per billion with some gasses). Conventional gravimetric and other techniques usually produce far less consistent results - and Versaperm's latest equipment and sensors take from as little as 30 minutes to produce reliable results.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers laboratory and consultancy services for companies that only need to test samples on an irregular basis.
