Packaging design competition Pentawards has published a compilation of all its award winners from 2011 and 2012: ‘The Package Design Book 2’.
Billed as the ‘must-have’ reference book for all packaging designers, The Package Design Book 2 features a selection of more than 400 works from 30 countries, providing a “vivid demonstration of creativity” covering the range of packaging forms.
In addition to plenty of images of the award winning designs, readers will find insight, through introductory essays and product descriptions, on what drives the design industry leaders and agencies behind these creations.
“Packaging is a highly underrated art form,” the awards organiser says. “As the first thing a consumer sees when looking at a product, the packaging can make or break a sale.
“Every year, the Pentawards celebrate the art of the package by presenting awards to designs from around the world.
“Designers compete in five main categories – beverages, food, body, luxury, and other markets – and no fewer than 44 sub-categories.”
Aimed at anyone with an interest in the creative process of packaging, as well as design and marketing professionals, the 432-page hardcover Package Design Book 2 is available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
Published by Taschen, it can be ordered through the Pentawards website (link, below right), priced at $59.99, €39.99 or £34.99, with a 10% discount available until mid-January.
As well as prize-giving, the Pentawards stated mission is the worldwide promotion of packaging design among companies, media, economic and political authorities, and the general public.
